Cathleen Rehfeld Demo Hosted by SWA

Cathleen Rehfeld spends a lot of time exploring the beauties of the natural world, for which she has an obvious passion, as demonstrated by her energetic and lovely landscape paintings.

Cathleen studied at the University of Texas at Austin, where she earned a BFA degree, and later attended the Gage Academy of Art in Seattle, Washington. She has held various creative roles, including being an art director and graphic designer for publications and advertising firms.

Additionally, in 2005 she founded the “Pacific Northwest Plein Air Competition,” which has become locally and nationally recognized. It now has a home in the Maryhill Museum of Art in Goldendale, Washington.

About Cathleen’s Landscapes

Each of the oil paintings in Cathleen’s extensive portfolio brings its own energy—whether it be joy or serenity—and they always convey a sense of appreciation for her surroundings. In her own words,

“My paintings represent what I find beautiful and interesting in the world. I want to bring that beauty into other people’s environments and share the joy and optimism I feel.”

Many elements make statements in her work, ranging from technical elements like color theory and contrast, or more conceptual areas of conveying a strong sense of being in a specific place. In fact, with much of her work, you can immediately sense her knowledge of color theory, perspective, and light and dark, all of which she intertwines with her joy for the world.
