Artist Statement:

Kimberlee Wixom began her art career as a young teenager in the 1970’s, where she began as a Tole painter and gradually transitioned to the Gordon Alexander method of painting, using progressively layers of oil paint (wet-on-wet painting). This method was eventually made very popular by the late Bob Ross on his “The Joy Of Painting” TV show. At the age of 15 she fortuitously was able to enhance her skills in painting by taking a class from an art teacher in Vancouver, WA, who studied under Bob Ross. At the age of 16 she won the President’s Award for art with a painting utilizing those same techniques.

Several years later, armed with an associates degree in graphic design, she landed a job with Fred Meyer in the print advertising department. After 8 years at Fred Meyer she traded her art skills for parenting skills as her first child was born. She would flirt with her art passion for many years while raising her 3 children, and was the primary instrument in helping her children become artists themselves. As a stay-at-home mother, she transitioned her art passion into a love for interior design, particularly in the mid century modern style. After 26 years, she has returned to her art roots, once again. This time in an advanced version of the wet-on-wet painting method, currently referred to as Fluid Art.

This Fluid Art technique is so versatile and yet presents an entirely new challenge for Kimberlee. Although seemingly random, these paintings can be manipulated in many different ways, thereby allowing her to use both her painting skills and her interior design skills as she creates customized art.
