Urban Landscape Painting and Color Mixing with Oils for Proficiency with Christopher Mooney

Chris will share how to transfer an image from an urban landscape photo reference to a surface such as a canvas. Through an examination of both the process and effects of painting, including demonstrations and exercises, students learn to how to analyze and execute various painting techniques while developing an urban landscape painting. Students, working on a project of their own, will have the opportunity to explore a variety of colors.

This class provides a simple introduction to both technical and methods in painting with an emphasis on understanding the fundamentals of color and what you can do with them. Urban landscapes provide a variety of textures and hues and the subject matter is endless. Drive away at the end of this class with new skills to merge into an art portfolio.

Class outline:

  • 1st class, Class introduction, demos how to transfer an image from a photo reference to a surface such as a canvas. Students will work on the transfers. Photo reference at least an 8” x 10” I will be providing a photo reference but if students want to bring their own it should be at least an 8” x 10” photo.
  • 2nd class, color mixing demo and start on your colors on the painting.
  • 3rd class, opens with a color mixing demo, work on their paintings, and possible perspective demos.
  • 4th class, work on painting, possible PowerPoint, or samples of urban landscapes.
  • 5th and 6th class, work on project and share finished works of their paintings.

Times, dates and location:

Sunday, 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm  Room 103, Frost Arts Bldg. Clark College

February 26th March 5th, and 12th   April 2nd, 9th, and 16th.

No classes will be held on March 19th or 26th as the facility is closed for annual maintenance.
