Frederick Jones

I work in oil, on canvas and board, painting landscapes and figurative pieces depicting scenes and people from locations where I have lived or traveled.  Many of my paintings are of people doing everyday things which sometimes will be absolutely nothing but sitting and contemplating their surroundings – Just those moments in time captured.  I am currently a resident of Vancouver Washington, but lived for years in Oregon, and prior to that the Mid-South and the Intermountain West. I am a member of SWA, the Trails End Art Gallery in Gearhart and show in Cannon Beach, Lake Oswego, Newberg and Camas. My web site is Frederickjonesfineart.com and I am a member of FASO (Fine Art Studio Online).

I paint intuitively and I love to experiment letting each composition unfold and change as I work. I consider myself an abstract expressionistic acrylic and mixed media artist who uses a variety of materials and methods. I interact with what is happening during the process as each piece becomes what it wants to become.  My need to creatively experiment keeps me exploring new materials and methods while continuing to learn as an artist.

I studied art at San Diego State and graduated with an Art Education degree. I am on the Society of Washington Artists Executive Board and have served as their Spring Show Chair for 4 years.  I am also a member of the Southwest Washington Watercolor Society, and Mosaic Art Alliance in Vancouver, WA. My work is currently shown and represented by the Camas Art Gallery, Camas, WA. I have entered shows throughout the northwest and have won various awards. Several paintings were accepted and I won in 3rd place in the 2019 national juried Associated Arts of Ocean Shores, WA Show. I have also shown work in the Gresham, OR and Sisters Or. My work was accepted three times for shows at The Second Story Gallery, in the Camas, WA Library.  In 2014, I exhibited at the First Unitarian Church in Portland, OR.  I have been the featured artist at Broadway Gallery, Longview, WA., and also Camas Gallery. I have participated in 5 juried Clark County Open Studio Tours. I won 1st place in the Oregon Society of Artists 2018 Rose Show and an honorable mention in 2020.

Janice Tracy lives and paints in Sisters, Oregon. She began studying art in the 1990s while living in Bend, Oregon. Her first efforts were a “DIY” way to decorate her home, but she soon found that she was producing more art than she had wall space. She has since shown and sold her work throughout Clark County and countrywide through her website, janicetracy.com.

Her approach to art is to capture a place, a moment, or a notion in the hope that the viewer can experience it with her. Her works are often reminiscent of Central Oregon and the Pacific Northwest coast.

Her media and methods are eclectic and include impressionist oil paintings applied entirely by palette knife; linear, Mondrian-inspired acrylics; cut paper collage; and water media on non-traditional surfaces.

Her works can often be seen at various locations in Vancouver and throughout the Pacific Northwest. See janicetracy.com for current showings.

“For art to surpass a photograph of a thing of beauty, it must reach beyond the image to reproduce the sensation of the moment. This is my goal in every piece of art.”
