I started painting in 1980 after I took my daughter to the county fair and paid someone to draw her. It was so bad I said I could do better myself, and did. At the time I was a fifth grade teacher in Calexico where 97% of my students spoke Spanish. My husband was a golf nut and was either watching TV or golfing all the time while not working so I wanted something to do for myself.

I started a bilingual education masters program at Cal State. At the same time since I had been drawing since 7 or 8, I decided to try painting. I took a magazine cover and tried to copy it. After 3 paintings I was able to show my work at the county fair.  I painted a lot until I became an administrator at the county superintendent’s office.

I became the Director of Bilingual Education at the county office and directed 3 Title VII grants in 5 school districts as well as initiating and directing an out of the county Spanish immersion program in Mexico for five years.

When I retired I started painting again and have had good success.  One of my paintings, Jerry’s Pizza, received Best in Show at the Kern County Fair. My paintings are in several Collections in Bakersfield, including several in Betty Younger’s and Janeen Smith’s homes.

I was accepted in the juried Morro Bay National Invitational shows in 2005 and again in 2007. In 2010/2011 I had two summer gallery shows in Laguna Beach, California.

I have shown my paintings at the Bakersfield symphony with good success, sometimes selling two at a time.

Once I moved to Vancouver I became a member of the SWA as well as the NOPG and won Best in Show at two SWA shows and Best in Show at the NOPG Spring show.

I also had a show and lecture at the Three Creek Community Library and had shows at the Confluence Winery in 2018-2019.

I currently sell my paintings online through my home in Lakeshore, Washington and at my other home in Murrieta, California.
